Morning all. Last week threw rain, roadworks, a new coffee shop in Henley and the patch still banked a respectable number, so take a breath and a flat white. Coffee had a genuinely handsome week, availability and NPS want a bit of love, and Summertown are currently making the rest of us look like we're on a gentle stroll. Let's go again.

AVAILABILITY
ON THE MOVE SUMMERTOWN πŸš€
Area landed at 76% against 80%, which is the sort of near-miss that makes you stare at the sandwiches for a full minute. Summertown, comfortably above and clearly enjoying yourselves, take a bow, and Jericho you nailed target on the nose. Sandwiches at 61% is doing most of the damage area-wide, so that's the shelf we all stare at before 11am this week. GX & Reading, what would help you get on top of ordering rhythms now the schools are back? Fix sandwiches and this whole table changes shape.

Spotlight
How Summertown did it
Summertown were the only site comfortably above target at 86%, and it lines up with a 93% post-shift completion rate, the same checks done at the same time every day. Steal the routine: a proper end-of-shift review so tomorrow's gaps get spotted tonight.
TOP 20 CATEGORIES
SANDWICHES SZN πŸ₯
Pastries at 88% shows what good looks like when a bake schedule is followed properly, and Sweets and Cakes are holding the line too. Sandwiches are the soft spot at 61%, with Savouries not far behind, and that's the gap customers notice at lunch when they walk out with nothing. Everyone, a quick 11am and 1pm sandwich count this week tells us more than any spreadsheet. Get lunch right and availability, sales and NPS all move together.

COFFEE EFFICIENCY
TOP OF THE SHOP, HENLEY! πŸ”₯
Area came in a whisker under 68%, which is frankly heroic given how many head baristas decided September was a good month to try a new life. Jericho and Henley, both miles above target, you are making steam look easy, and Banbury you're not far behind. Marlow, you've been honest that you lost your head barista and had one barista mid-training, so let's get cover and some hands-on coffee time booked in rather than you doing two hours solo on the machine again. Milk discipline plus a trained pair of hands is the whole recipe here.

WASTE
LESS IN THE BIN πŸ—‘οΈ
Waste sat over budget on most of the patch, which is the bit that quietly eats the CP win. Summertown and Reading came in under budget and deserve a round of applause and possibly a biscuit, and Jericho were within touching distance. Witney, your number is the one we'll rally round this week, make sure you get time in to review the production matrix and afternoon top-ups and get production matched to what actually sells. Beaconsfield and Marlow, both of you flagged new-launch ordering against softer sales, so sanity-check those order quantities before Wednesday.

SALES, L4L & FORECAST
FILL THE TILLS πŸ’·
Sales were a mixed bag with L4L under pressure across most of the patch, so nobody is sat in isolation here. Jericho, positive L4L in this weather is a proper result, and Summertown and GX both beat forecast, which is exactly the accuracy we want. Henley, a competitor opening Tuesday plus rain is a rough double, and your group bookings and MTO upselling are the right answer, so keep pushing that. Beaconsfield, your marketing calendar and sampling are the right habits even while last year's comparatives sulk. Autumn launch is our best sales lever, so let's actually sell it.

LABOUR PERFORMANCEsales-weighted, each bakery against budget
Half the patch came in on or under budget, which in a week of unexpected closures and training is genuinely tidy. Marlow, Summertown and Jericho, all under budget, and Henley you cut smartly when the sales weren't there. Banbury, your percentage got squeezed by the sales shortfall more than by wild rota decisions, so let's look together at how the hours sit against the trading pattern rather than trimming blindly. Beaconsfield, longer closes plus a barista leaving means the rota needs a proper once-over before it writes itself. Match hours to the actual customers, not the ones we hoped for.

CUSTOMER & NPS
MAKE THEIR DAY πŸ’Œ
Area average of 43.4 against 55 is not where we want it, and the honest truth is a couple of single reviews have battered the maths rather than ten weeks of bad service. Jericho, you're flying, and Summertown and GX are comfortably above, so whatever you're doing at the till, bottle it and send it round. Reading, one rough Monday review has clobbered a score that doesn't reflect the shift, so let's get volume of feedback back up and drown it out. Marlow, Henley, your notes about tight staffing and being a till down are fair, and they're on my list, not just yours.

CUSTOMER STORY OF THE WEEK πŸ’›
β€œI was in Gail’s for lunch with my mum, toddler, and baby. I would like my thanks and appreciation passed on to Imogen who went out of her way to help me carry the pushchair down the stairs as I had my baby strapped to me. Another employee was also extremely helpful in taking the trays of food and drink to our table as my mum was helping with my toddler. When out and about with young children it’s very common to feel like they’re an inconvenience, so your employees being so willing to help out made us feel so welcome and made my life a lot easier.”

TEAM ROUTINES & FLAGSPost-shift reviews and what teams raised
Post-shift reviews are the routine that catches problems while they're still small, and right now the patch is patchy. Summertown, 93% completion and eight flags raised is exactly the behaviour we want, and Jericho you're flagging honestly too, which is how things actually get fixed. Banbury, GX and Henley are all past halfway, so the habit is forming. Marlow and Reading, nothing came through at all, and I know the weeks have been hectic, so let's make it a two-minute end-of-shift ritual rather than another job. Henley, if your team say they're doing them and they aren't showing, tell me and I'll chase the system.

Quote of the week
"The wind does not break a tree that bends." It's a Sukuma proverb, and it fits a week of closures, competitor openings and rain where the sites that flexed their orders and rotas came out fine.
This week’s mission
LET'S GET THE WEEK-AHEAD FORECASTS GENUINELY HONEST THIS WEEK, SO ORDERING, BAKING AND ROTAS ARE ALL WORKING OFF THE SAME SET OF NUMBERS RATHER THAN THREE DIFFERENT HUNCHES.
Almost everything else we moan about starts here: a forecast that is out by a few hundred quid quietly becomes over-ordering, panic bakes and a rota that never had a chance, so nail the number and half the week fixes itself.
Have a great week everyone.

Bobby
